Xbox Game Pass subscribers have a new horror title to dive into following a surprise shadow drop during the November Xbox Partner Preview. Trigger Happy Interactive has launched Total Chaos, a gritty first-person survival horror experience featuring music from legendary Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka. The game is available now on Xbox Series X/S and Xbox Cloud Gaming through Game Pass Ultimate, giving players instant access without any prior warning.
The project has a fascinating development history, originating years ago as a total conversion mod for Doom 2 before evolving into a fully reimagined, standalone modern release. Developer Trigger Happy Interactive is already well-regarded in the community for their work on the critically acclaimed 2023 retro-style shooter Turbo Overkill. With Total Chaos, the studio shifts focus entirely to atmospheric dread, tasking players with surviving a nine-chapter campaign filled with shambling horrors and inhuman abominations.
Gameplay leans heavily into classic survival mechanics, featuring deep inventory management, weapon crafting, and a mix of melee and ranged combat to keep players on edge. For Game Pass subscribers, the shadow drop provides an immediate weekend option for horror fans, continuing the service trend of surprise launches. According to reporting by Game Rant, the reveal arrived alongside a fresh gameplay trailer detailing the grim environments and terrifying encounters awaiting players.
