Subnautica 2 Update Adds Non-Lethal Stun Options for Players Feeling Trapped

Subnautica 2's first major update introduces non-lethal creature stun tools, improved BioMod slot management, and major audio and UI overhauls for the early access survival sequel.

Subnautica 2 has just rolled out its first major early access update, bringing significant quality of life improvements and a compromise for players looking for better defense options. Developer Unknown Worlds detailed the 1.1 patch, titled Adaptive Measures, in a recent developer walkthrough. While the studio is sticking to its guns regarding the sequel's non-violent approach to local wildlife, the update introduces a new Sonic Resonator function that lets players stun certain creatures and create breathing room during tight encounters.

Creative director Anthony Gallegos noted that the team wants to listen to community feedback regarding players feeling defenseless in high danger zones without completely abandoning their vision for the game. Alongside the new stun states, the update adds creature flinching and smoother behavioral transitions for Blight predators, ensuring fewer surprise attacks from nowhere. Exploration also sees a boost with more plentiful BioMod stations, allowing players to swap abilities easily and unlock additional passive slots simply by scanning local fauna.

Quality of life changes round out the rest of the patch, with major upgrades hitting the in-game PDA and wreck exploration. Players can now review audio logs at their own leisure instead of dealing with annoying autoplay overlaps, and voice lines have received a strict prioritization pass.
