Subnautica 2 Prepares Its First Major Update With Overhauled Creature AI and QoL Fixes

Subnautica 2's first major update arrives tomorrow, introducing smarter creature behaviors, combat feedback improvements, UI upgrades, and early game additions.

Subnautica 2 is rolling out its first substantial post launch update tomorrow, bringing a much needed wave of creature behavior tweaks, early game additions, and quality of life improvements to the survival sequel. As detailed by Rock Paper Shotgun, the update aims to make underwater ecosystem interactions feel significantly more responsive for players navigating the alien depths on PC and Xbox platforms. Early game progression is getting a boost with additional biolabs scattered about, giving explorers more frequent opportunities to locate and swap out Biomods.

A primary focus of this patch centers on how hostile and passive fauna react to player intervention. Combat feedback has been sharpened through improved creature flinches and dedicated stunned states when using the sonic resonator, allowing for clearer tactical options during close encounters. The transition from passive to aggressive states for blight creatures has also been smoothed out to cut down on unfair ambush moments, ensuring you can better read the underwater room before things turn sideways.

Beyond creature updates, the patch addresses several community requested inventory and UI hurdles. The PDA receives a cleaner categorization layout alongside the long awaited ability to playback audio logs and smarter voice over prioritization so critical dialogue does not get lost in a queue. Wrecks are also seeing slight puzzle expansions for added depth, complemented by a new buildable personal storage option. You can check out the full patch notes when the update officially drops on July 8th.
