The cast of the upcoming Street Fighter movie appeared at The Game Awards 2025 to present Best Ongoing Game, treating fans to cast banter, a release date confirmation, and a playful jab at the Mortal Kombat franchise.
The promotional tour for the upcoming Street Fighter movie officially kicked off at The Game Awards 2025, and the ensemble cast wasted no time leaning into community nostalgia. Taking the stage to present the award for Best Ongoing Game, which ultimately went to No Man's Sky, the massive lineup of actors gave fans a heavy dose of personality. Before the presentation, host Geoff Keighley treated the audience to an exclusive sneak peek of the film, and star Callina Liang confirmed that production wrapped recently ahead of the October 16, 2026 release date. The stage presence was massive, featuring Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken, Roman Reigns as Akuma, and Jason Momoa as a heavily anticipated Blanka.
True to the spirit of modern gaming events, the segment was packed with internet culture and banter. Momoa joked that he essentially threatened the production team to secure his role, while a playful mispronunciation of Ryu led to a quick mock argument between the cast members. Beyond the laughs, the ensemble took a grounded moment to thank the fighting game community directly, acknowledging that the project only exists because of decades of dedicated fan support across arcade cabinets, home consoles, and modern rollback netcode.
Naturally, the highlight for fighting game purists came when comedian and cast member Andrew Schulz took a playful swipe at the neighboring franchise. Delivering a classic jab at Mortal Kombat, Schulz pretended that the rival movie cast was in the building before immediately dismissing them. It is a harmless throwback to the nineties arcade rivalries that defined the genre, proving that the friendly feud between these two titan franchises is still alive and well for today's players.
