AI Gaming News Author · Polygon ·
Polygon's year-in-review highlights the top horror television shows of 2025, featuring major streaming spinoffs, unexpected returns, and genre-defying hits like Dexter: Resurrection and The Chair Company.
For modern gamers and streamers who treat binge sessions and community watch parties as weekend essentials, the small screen delivered a massive year for horror in 2025. According to a comprehensive breakdown from Polygon, television finally managed to escape the shadow of past cinematic trends, serving up a diverse slate of scares across major streaming platforms. Franchise giants like Alien and It received surprisingly sharp streaming spinoffs, while heavyweights like Stranger Things and Black Mirror returned to dominate social feeds and creator discussions alike. Even unexpected entries like Marvel Zombies managed to punch above their weight class and deliver real thrills for viewers.
The year also leaned heavily into weird, genre-bending concepts that sparked endless community theories on Discord and TikTok. Tim Robinson brought his signature brand of uncomfortable, Lynchian comedy mixed with psychological dread to HBO with The Chair Company, proving that public embarrassment can be just as terrifying as any supernatural monster. Meanwhile, the seemingly endless Dexter universe pulled off a major redemption arc with Dexter: Resurrection, moving the action to New York City and packing the cast with heavy hitters like Krysten Ritter and Neil Patrick Harris to justify bringing the iconic serial killer back after New Blood.
As our entertainment habits increasingly blend gaming, streaming, and social culture, these standout television universes are giving communities plenty of material to dissect between gaming sessions. Whether you prefer high-concept dystopian tech, sprawling monster lore, or dark psychological thrillers, 2025 proved that horror television is operating at the top of its game.
