Stephen King's 'The Long Walk' Gets the Poster Treatment (and a Comic-Con Stroll)

Stephen King's 'The Long Walk' is coming to the big screen, and we've got character posters and a Comic-Con announcement to whet our appetites for this dystopian walking nightmare (starring Mark Hamill as the bad guy!).

Right then, listen up, because something pretty cool's brewing in the adaptation world. Lionsgate is bringing Stephen King's 'The Long Walk' to the big screen, and from the looks of things, they're taking it seriously. (Fair dinkum, you wouldn't want to mess up a King classic, would ya?).

Based on King's dystopian novel (written under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, which is a story in itself), 'The Long Walk' throws a bunch of young lads into a televised walking competition where the only rule is... don't stop walking. Seriously. Three warnings, and then *bang*. You're out. Permanently.

IGN just dropped a stack of character posters, giving us a good look at the cast. We're talking Cooper Hoffman as Raymond Garraty, David Jonsson as Peter McVries, and, get this, Mark Hamill as the deliciously villainous Major. That's right, Luke Skywalker gone bad. Should be interesting, eh?

The posters also feature the young contestants, played by Ben Wang, Charlie Plummer, Tut Nyuot, Garrett Wareing, Joshua Odjick, Jordan Gonzalez, and Roman Griffin Davis. Each poster rocks their contestant number, which is a nice touch. Gives it that whole 'Hunger Games' vibe, but with more walking and less archery (though equally grim, I reckon).

But that's not all, mate! 'The Long Walk' is hitting San Diego Comic-Con. A panel is scheduled for Friday, July 25th, from 3-4 PM in Hall H, featuring cast members, producer Roy Lee, and screenwriter JT Mollner. So, if you're lucky enough to be at Comic-Con, you can get the inside scoop straight from the horses' mouths.

The movie is directed by Francis Lawrence, who helmed a few of the 'Hunger Games' flicks, so he knows a thing or two about dystopian survival. He even told IGN that 'The Long Walk' is one of his favorite Stephen King books. Strong words, indeed. Lawrence also reckons the relationships between the young men are timeless, despite the whole "walk or die" situation. Kinda beautiful in a twisted way, innit?

'The Long Walk' is slated to hit theaters on September 12th. I don't know about you, but I'm already prepping my walking shoes... just in case.
