Beadle Grimm's has launched a Kickstarter campaign for two new Star Trek tabletop puzzle games, Deep Space Nine: Holosuite Homicide and Lower Decks: Chaos Protocol, featuring physical props, mobile integration, and reusable components.
Tabletop and prop design studio Beadle Grimm's is continuing its trek into narrative box games, launching a brand new Kickstarter campaign for two distinct Star Trek experiences. Following previous releases based on Picard and Strange New Worlds, the studio is turning its attention to Deep Space Nine and Lower Decks. According to Polygon, the upcoming projects are designed to welcome both die hard franchise veterans and casual fans without requiring an encyclopedic knowledge of lore.
The first of the two releases, Deep Space Nine: Holosuite Homicide, casts players as Starfleet investigators working to clear Quark's name after a fatal incident at his famous station bar. Instead of assigning rigid character roles, the game leaves investigator identities open to keep group game nights flexible. The physical box includes three sealed evidence envelopes, a functional map of the station promenade tied directly to major puzzles, and wearable Starfleet badges that interact with web pages and augmented reality elements via mobile phones.
Meanwhile, Lower Decks: Chaos Protocol leans into the animated series' chaotic energy by challenging players to solve ten escalating puzzles to rescue the Cerritos crew from a rogue security system. Both games incorporate high-end physical props and puzzles that require disassembling items or playing physical media, while carefully avoiding any permanent destruction of components. This design choice means players can easily pass the games along to friends or trade them within local tabletop communities when the mystery is solved.
