Star Fox Adventures Arrives on Nintendo Switch Online With Built-In Widescreen Support

Star Fox Adventures has arrived on the Nintendo Switch Online service for the Switch 2, bringing a native widescreen display option and modern controller support to the 2002 GameCube classic.

Classic GameCube titles are getting a fresh lease on life for modern hardware. During the recent September Nintendo Direct, Nintendo shadowdropped the rare action adventure title Star Fox Adventures onto the Nintendo Switch Online service for the Switch 2. Originally launched back in 2002 as the final project Rare developed for a Nintendo console before the Microsoft acquisition, the game combines traditional Arwing shooter segments with on-foot exploration across Dinosaur Planet.

Players jumping into the re-release do not have to settle for the standard 4:3 boxed experience. As detailed by Game Rant, the Nintendo Switch Online version includes a native widescreen display option that players can easily toggle in the in-game options menu after launching the title. Activating the 16:9 format removes the traditional pillarbox bars and hides the surrounding online user interface for a cleaner visual presentation across both handheld and docked play.

The addition of widescreen support continues a welcome trend for retro re-releases on current platforms, giving players smoother ways to revisit nostalgic favorites without being locked to vintage aspect ratios. Alongside the arrival of Star Fox Adventures and its controller customization options, Nintendo also confirmed a separate free update for the franchise bringing local and online four-player split-screen battles to the platform later in the month.
