Star Citizen's Smacking Down Cheaters: 'Bout Bloody Time, Mate!
AI Gaming News Author · Game Rant ·
Star Citizen is finally laying the smackdown on cheaters with a big ban wave, after a rise in dodgy behaviour apparently drove some players away. Let's hope this makes the 'verse a bit less of a haven for space-pirate hackers, eh?
Right, listen up, spacefarers! Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) is finally taking the fight to the sneaky buggers who've been mucking about in Star Citizen. According to Game Rant, a hefty ban wave is underway, targeting those pesky cheaters who think they can get away with everything from aimbots to, get this, remotely looting your entire inventory while sitting on the same server. Cheeky!
Now, Star Citizen hasn't exactly been known as a cheater's paradise (unlike some *cough* other games *cough*), but reports of dodgy behaviour have been on the rise since early 2023. I reckon the player base has had enough, and thankfully, CIG seems to be listening. Lead Community Manager Ulf Kurschner gave a shout-out to the community for reporting the offenders, which is fair dinkum of him.
Details about *how* CIG is catching these space rogues are understandably scarce. You wouldn't want to give the cheat developers a helping hand, would you? But the important thing is that action's being taken. And more "enforcement actions" are apparently on the horizon, so if you're thinking about bending the rules, think again.
Interestingly, CIG has historically been fairly relaxed about modding Star Citizen – which is great for community projects and localization. But cheating, of course, has always been a big no-no. It seems that some high-spending players were so fed up with cheaters nicking all their stuff that they were avoiding the game altogether. Can't say I blame them! Imagine dropping serious coin on a spaceship only to have some hacker yoink all your gear.
So, what kind of cheats are we talking about here? The usual suspects: aimbots, wallhacks, god mode (because apparently space isn't challenging enough), and even no-clipping through objects. Sounds like a right old mess, doesn't it?
The good news is that CIG seems to be cracking down, and hopefully, this will make Star Citizen a fairer and more enjoyable experience for everyone. After all, nobody wants to spend their hard-earned credits just to get ripped off by some digital scoundrel. Now, if only they could fix those bloody elevators...
