S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Creeps Onto PS5: Zone's Getting a Little Less Exclusive

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, previously Xbox and PC exclusive, is heading to PS5 in late 2025, promising DualSense features and PS5 Pro enhancements. Seems like the Zone's radiation is spreading to new consoles, hopefully bringing a smoother experience this time around.
Right, listen up, mates. Remember S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl? The open-world FPS that had a bit of a rough launch, but showed promise? Well, GSC Game World just announced it's staggering its way onto the PS5 sometime in late 2025. That's right, another Xbox 'exclusive' jumping ship. (Sound familiar? Bloody hell, I'm starting to think 'exclusive' just means 'timed exclusive these days'.)
For those blissfully unaware (or perhaps wisely avoiding irradiated wastelands), the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise kicked off way back in 2007 with Shadow of Chernobyl. After a few follow-ups, a sequel was teased, then cancelled, then resurrected like some mutant Zone creature – finally arriving in November 2024. The launch wasn't exactly smooth, with more than a few complaints about polish and stability. But hey, it’s got a decent 74 on OpenCritic, so something must be working, right?
Now, a shiny new trailer promises PS5 owners a taste of the Zone. GSC Game World is touting the use of DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers to really immerse you in the… *ahem*… unique atmosphere. And, of course, the PS5 Pro version will get "further technical enhancements." (Which, let's be honest, probably means it'll run slightly less like a slideshow.)
But what does this all *mean*? Well, it's good news for PS5 players craving a gritty, atmospheric shooter. And it's arguably good news for GSC Game World, too. More platforms, more potential sales. The game apparently has over 6 million players, but that figure includes Game Pass subscribers. Some speculate actual sales are around 2 million, which is nothing to sneeze at. The hope is, of course, that they use the time between now and late 2025 to polish S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 into the gem it always threatened to be.
Perhaps the transition to another platform will let them refine a few of the systems. Given the rocky launch, a second chance at a first impression could be just what the doctor ordered.
