Square Enix Denies AI Use in Kingdom Hearts Collection Promotional Art

Square Enix denies using generative AI for Kingdom Hearts Collection promotional art, blaming human error for bizarre visual errors, though updated assets only partially fix the issues.
Square Enix has finally addressed fan accusations regarding promotional art for the upcoming Kingdom Hearts Collection 1-3. Fans initially flagged unusual visual anomalies in the promotional materials back in June, pointing to weird hand structures on Donald Duck, inconsistent chains on Mickey Mouse, and distorted clock tower details. After two months of silence, a company representative told GameSpot that the assets were created by the development team without generative AI tools, attributing the bizarre errors entirely to human mistake.
Despite the denial of generative AI usage, the publisher acknowledged the community feedback and quietly pushed out updated assets for some of the affected promotional images. While the new version corrects Donald Duck's hand errors, other visual inconsistencies like the clock tower details and character shoe discrepancies remain unaddressed. This selective fix has left many players and community members skeptical about the true origins of the art, especially given how quickly generative tools are creeping into standard studio pipelines.
As the industry navigates the integration of new digital tools, player scrutiny over promotional assets and in-game assets has never been higher. Transparency remains a major pain point for modern gamers who expect authenticity from major studios. With Kingdom Hearts Collection 1-3 scheduled to launch across PC, Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S this October, Square Enix will need to rebuild that trust if they want players to focus on the games rather than the marketing controversy.
