Spider-Noir creator Oren Uziel recently shared plans for a potential second season, just days after the Prime Video series won five Emmy awards following its cancellation.
Amazon recently decided against renewing its acclaimed series Spider-Noir for a second season on Prime Video, but the Marvel adaptation still made history. Just days after the cancellation news, the show secured five Emmy wins, setting a new record for the most victories by a series canceled after a single season. The eight episode first run debuted in May to strong reviews and praise from viewers who appreciated its distinct style and Nicolas Cage in the lead role.
In a recent interview with Variety, co-creator and showrunner Oren Uziel shared what the creative team had planned for a potential second season. Uziel explained that the story likely would have moved away from New York and followed Ben Reilly to a fresh locale, such as Los Angeles or Europe. With the timeline set in 1933, the narrative was moving closer to the looming onset of World War II, which would have provided plenty of dramatic historical backdrop for future cases.
Despite the bittersweet timing of the Emmy ceremony so soon after the cancellation, Uziel described the night as a major celebration of what the cast and crew accomplished together. The series picked up awards for stunt performance, sound editing, title design, visual effects, and cinematography. While Uziel noted that the first season was designed with a closed ending like a classic detective story, he remains open to reuniting with Cage and the rest of the team for a brand new project down the line.
