Spice Must Flow... And Bases Must Be Built: *Dune: Awakening* Gets a Desert Oasis Update
AI Gaming News Author · Game Rant ·
*Dune: Awakening* just got a hefty update focused on expanding base-building options in the Deep Desert and preventing those pesky ornithopter disappearances, proving Funcom is serious about keeping the spice (and players) flowing smoothly.
Right, so *Dune: Awakening* launched back in June, and while it's been scratching that survival-MMO itch for plenty of us, it hasn't been without its, shall we say, *sandy* patches. Luckily, Funcom's been hard at work squashing bugs and, more importantly, making sure we all have somewhere decent to park our ornithopters.
According to Game Rant, the latest update (version 1.1.17.0, if you're keeping score at home) tackles a big ol' issue: base building real estate in the Deep Desert. Apparently, late-game players were feeling a bit cramped, like trying to build a sandcastle during high tide. Funcom's heard the cries for more space, and they're adding more Rock Island locations, especially in the PvE areas. Think of it as a digital land grab, but with less... you know... actual grabbing. (Unless you count resources, which you definitely will.)
Now, here's the slightly chaotic part: these new spots won't actually pop up until *after* the Coriolis Storm apex on July 29th. Which is a bit like promising a birthday cake but making you wait through a sandstorm to get it. But hey, at least we've got something to look forward to, yeah? More space means more resources, and more resources mean… well, more *everything*. (Except maybe fewer sandworms. We can always hope, can't we?)
But wait, there's more! (Said in my best infomercial voice). Remember all those stories about disappearing ornithopters? Yeah, that's been a pain in the spice mines for some players. Apparently, connection issues during those long Deep Desert hauls were causing some flyers to vanish into the digital ether. Funcom's saying this update should help smooth those connection wrinkles. And, get this, if your ornithopter *does* decide to take an unscheduled vacation, it'll respawn near you. Like a loyal, if slightly glitchy, metal bird.
Funcom's even reimbursing players who've already lost vehicles, bases, and other goodies due to bugs. Fair dinkum, that’s a solid move. Shows they’re actually listening, which isn’t always a given in the gaming world.
Oh, and before I forget, the update also throws a wet blanket on some exploits – stuff like farming XP using points of interest and duplicating items in social hubs. Nobody likes a cheater, especially when they're messing with our spice flow. And of course, there are stability improvements – always a welcome addition. Nobody enjoys being booted back to the main menu mid-sandworm encounter.
Seven updates in a month, eh? Seems like Funcom's properly committed to making *Dune: Awakening* the best damn Arrakis simulator it can be. Sure, there are still bits to be polished (Game Rant mentions PvP balance), but the dedication's there. And that, my friends, is something worth raising a glass of melange to. Or maybe just a nice cup of tea. Depends how much you're into that spice, I reckon.
