Digital Extremes has rolled out a massive new prelude update for Soulframe, introducing a pirate-themed Duelo class, haunted shipwrecks, castle sieges, fallen alien skytowers, and significant quality-of-life improvements.
Digital Extremes is continuing to shape its pensive, mythological action-RPG through its ongoing development cycle, dropping a massive new update that leans heavily into nautical flair. As reported by Rock Paper Shotgun, the game's latest major prelude introduces the Duelo pact, bringing swashbuckling combat styles, rapiers, cutlasses, and flouncy sailor cosmetics to the table. Players diving into the new Wreck Of Mestra Carmo questline will find themselves exploring haunted shipwrecks, hunting down Duelo Ribbon pieces, and engaging in shipboard duels to assemble distinct pirate outfits. It is a loud addition to a gaming landscape that currently features an abundance of pirate-themed experiences, proving that developers across the industry cannot seem to stay away from the high seas.
Beyond the seafaring aesthetic, the update packs plenty of content for players who prefer dry land and cosmic weirdness. The patch introduces the Mirifuir Castle Siege Encounter, which tasks players with sabotaging rituals at the summit of a clifftop fortress, alongside the shattered depths of the Fallen Ode Skytower, a massive citadel populated by hostile alien entities. Adventurers can also extract new weaponry from these locations, including a curved ichor blade harvested from a freshly downed boss known as the Rovgot Wyrm. These additions give the community plenty of high-stakes cooperative grinding grounds to dig into while pushing forward through the game's deliberate, atmospheric build.
To round out the update, the developers have implemented a wide array of quality-of-life adjustments aimed at smoothing out the player experience. These include five new Votive side quests available at World Tree job boards, a completely reworked journal UI and codex menu, and a revamped combat loop that ties Rune power activation directly to fully-charged heavy attacks. Narrative-focused players also get a treat with new lost histories for the ancestor character Orlick located in the Nightfold hub.
