Sony is reportedly leading the race to bring Battlefield to the big screen

Sony is reportedly closing in on a Battlefield movie deal featuring Christopher McQuarrie and Michael B. Jordan, putting the blockbuster shooter franchise on a collision course with Hollywood.

Sony is in advanced talks to secure the film rights for Electronic Arts and its massive shooter franchise Battlefield. According to reporting from Variety, the studio is navigating final negotiations following a competitive bidding war that saw multiple major players vying for the project.

The creative team attached to the film brings serious weight to the production. Christopher McQuarrie is lined up to write, direct, and produce, while Michael B. Jordan is on board as a producer through Outlier Society with the potential to star in the lead role. The producer roster also features EA's Jesse Stern alongside industry veterans from Vertigo and Emerald Neon.

This move comes as video game adaptations continue to dominate box offices and streaming queues, following a massive year for the franchise with the launch of Battlefield 6. Rival shooter heavyweight Call of Duty is also heading to theaters via Paramount, setting up a familiar rivalry on the big screen as both franchises expand beyond traditional console and PC play into mainstream entertainment.
