Sony Is Quietly Testing Dynamic Pricing on the PlayStation Store

Data from PSprices reveals that Sony has been running quiet A/B pricing tests on the PlayStation digital store since November 2025, showing different prices to different users for the same games.
Sony is quietly running large-scale price experiments on the PlayStation digital storefront, according to findings from the tracking site PSprices. The data shows that over 150 titles across 68 regions have been subjected to variable pricing tests since November 2025. Users are randomly split into control and test groups, resulting in different players seeing varying costs for the exact same games. The backend data ties these tests to internal programs labeled as IPT_PILOT and IPT_OPR_TESTING within the PlayStation API responses, affecting both first party blockbusters and third party releases.
So far, the tracked price adjustments have trended downward. High profile titles like Marvels Spider Man 2 and God of War Ragnarok have occasionally dropped by about twelve percent, while certain third party games like Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2 saw reductions closer to seventeen percent. Major markets like the United States and Japan appear to be excluded from the current rollout, likely due to stricter consumer protection regulations and high market sensitivity. Sony has not yet issued an official statement regarding these ongoing tests.
While getting a discount is rarely something players complain about, the lack of transparency is a major concern for the community. Digital storefronts already operate in a closed ecosystem without the used game market or competing physical retailers to keep costs in check. If variable pricing becomes a permanent fixture, the idea that two players can pay entirely different amounts for the same digital license creates friction and distrust. For an audience accustomed to predictable battle pass costs and transparent digital economies, secretive pricing algorithms are a step in the wrong direction.
