Sonic the Hedgehog is officially racing into Fortnite, bringing a blast of classic gaming nostalgia to the battle royale. According to an exclusive gameplay preview shared by the official Sonic social media channels and reported by IGN South Africa, the blue blur is headline material for the upcoming Chapter 7 Season 4. Titled Override, the new season leans heavily into legendary gaming crossovers, with leaks and early announcements pointing to appearances from Tetris, Kingdom Hearts, and Persona alongside everyone's favorite speedster.
The early footage offers a clear look at what players can expect when the update drops. A dedicated area modeled after the iconic Green Hill Zone is featured prominently, complete with loops, springboards, and classic visual motifs. The teaser even shows everyone's favorite banana, Peely, hurtling through the environment with incredible momentum. This clearly signals a new high-speed movement item or mechanic custom-built for the collaboration, letting players recreate the feeling of a platforming legend while hunting for Victory Royales.
For a game that functions as a massive interactive digital lounge for modern players, these gaming-themed seasons keep the live service ecosystem feeling fresh and culturally relevant. Epic Games continues to turn Fortnite into a grand convergence point for different eras of entertainment, blending streaming culture, cross-platform play, and pop culture heavyweights. When Override goes live, expect lobbies to be packed with players testing out the new mobility items and running rings around the competition.
