A definitive edition of Sonic Frontiers has leaked via Korea's ratings board, pointing to an upcoming re-release of Sega's 2022 open-zone platformer.
A definitive edition of Sonic Frontiers appears to be on the way. According to a recent listing spotted by Korea's Game Rating and Administration Committee, Sega is preparing a new release for the 2022 open zone adventure. Ratings board discoveries have historically been among the most reliable early indicators for upcoming gaming announcements, giving players a solid heads up well before official publisher reveals.
Sonic Frontiers marked a major pivot for the franchise by trading linear stages for expansive open zones across the Starfall Islands, a formula Sega later refined with Shadow Generations in 2024. The original release also introduced key modern staples to the canon, including Sage, the android daughter of Dr. Robotnik, who has since expanded into titles like Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds and the IDW comic series. While the rating leak offers no specific details on what the new package will contain, players are already speculating on whether it will bundle the extensive post launch free updates that added playable roles for Tails, Knuckles, and Amy.
For players who skipped the initial launch or streaming fans looking to revisit the Starfall Islands, a definitive package offers a neat entry point. Sega has not yet commented on the leak or provided a release window, but given the track record of ratings boards, an official announcement is likely on the horizon.
