Sonic Adventure Remakes? Fuggedaboutit! Sonic Team Chases New Horizons Instead

Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka says a Sonic Adventure remake is too much work compared to making a new game, so put those hopes on ice. Instead, expect new adventures and more of that open-zone goodness from Sonic Frontiers.
Right, so the burning question on every speed demon's mind: Are we *ever* gonna get a proper Sonic Adventure remake? Well, according to Takashi Iizuka, head honcho at Sonic Team, the answer is a resounding 'Nah, mate.'
Speaking to Shack News (bless their inquisitive souls), Iizuka admitted he's constantly badgered by fans clamoring for a spruced-up version of those Dreamcast classics. But here's the kicker: he reckons it'd take just as much effort to bring Sonic Adventure and its sequel up to modern standards as it would to cook up a brand new Sonic title. Blimey.
"I do hear that a lot," Iizuka said, acknowledging the fan fervor. "I really am appreciative of everyone who likes the Sonic Adventure series, but when I think about what it would take to bring that game up to the standards and expectations of what the modern gaming audience would want, I think it would be about as much time and energy as it would to make a new title."
So, instead of polishing those retro gems, Sonic Team is doubling down on fresh adventures. Which, I reckon, isn't necessarily a bad thing. I mean, sure, nostalgia's a powerful drug, but who wants to just keep reliving the past when there's a whole new world of loop-de-loops and spindashes to explore? (Unless, of course, it’s a bad game, then please do not take any inspiration from it).
It's not like Sonic Team's allergic to remasters altogether, though. Remember *Sonic x Shadow Generations* from last year? Proof they’re willing to revisit the past, albeit selectively. But *Sonic Adventure*, with its, shall we say, *unique* camera angles and level design, would require a serious overhaul.
Iizuka previously said that the open-zone design of *Sonic Frontiers* is the "cornerstone of future Sonic games." Translation: expect more sprawling landscapes and less linear corridor running. And while there are no plans for a *Sonic Adventure 3* or a Chao Garden game (tragic, I know), Iizuka *did* say, "we'd love to make it." So, never say never, eh?
Apparently, the roadmap for Sonic games involves alternating between 3D action titles, 2D classics, and racing games. We had *Sonic x Shadow Generations* last year, *Sonic Superstars* the year before that, and *Sonic Frontiers* the year before that. And now, the racing front has *Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds*.
And let’s not forget the weird and wonderful detours, like *The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog*, which proves that even the Blue Blur can handle a bit of mystery. The game hit a million downloads pretty quickly. Not bad for an April Fool's joke!
To celebrate the upcoming release of *Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds*, Sega's even teamed up with McLaren Racing in a multi-year collab. Sonic's gone legit, folks!
So, there you have it. No Sonic Adventure remakes on the horizon. But hey, at least we're getting new Sonic games, right? (Fingers crossed they're actually good). Let's embrace the chaos and see what Sonic Team cooks up next.
