Solasta 2 Embraces the D&D Ready Action Rule That Baldur's Gate 3 Skipped

Solasta 2 developer Tactical Adventures is expanding the D&D Ready Action rule for its upcoming sequel, including support for spells and area of effect triggers, taking a more faithful tabletop approach than Baldur's Gate 3.
Tactical Adventures is taking its commitment to tabletop authenticity even further in the upcoming sequel, Solasta 2. During a recent community stream, the developers detailed how the game will expand the implementation of the Ready Action. This rule allows players to delay their turn, name a specific trigger, and burn their reaction to execute an action later. While the first Solasta limited this mechanic mostly to basic weapon attacks and cantrips, the sequel aims to support single target spells at early access launch, with area of effect and multi target spells coming later. Players will even be able to ready support spells, such as casting Cure Wounds on an ally the moment they move into range.
This devotion to the rulebook creates a fascinating contrast with Larian Studios and Baldur's Gate 3. Larian famously omitted the Ready Action to keep the digital experience smooth and balanced, choosing instead to blend D&D fundamentals with their own proprietary design philosophy. Translating every possible tabletop edge case into code is a massive engineering hurdle, and the developers at Tactical Adventures noted that attempting total tabletop freedom would essentially turn their tactical CRPG into a complex puzzle game.
For digital players, this mechanical depth opens up entirely new avenues for combat strategies and emergent clips on streaming platforms, even if the rule is notorious among tabletop dungeon masters for enabling initiative exploits. Solasta 2 heads into early access on Steam on March 12, giving PC players a chance to test these expanded tactical options firsthand. Original reporting and further details can be found at Polygon.
