Slay the Spire 2 Update Targets Infinite Combos and Introduces the Card-Eating Doormaker

Mega Crit's first major post-launch patch for Slay the Spire 2 introduces balance changes that make infinite card combos harder to achieve, including a new card-eating mechanic for the Doormaker enemy.

Mega Crit has rolled out the first major post-launch patch for Slay the Spire 2, bringing a massive wave of balance tweaks designed to tackle a staple of deckbuilder strategy. As detailed in a report by Rock Paper Shotgun, the update takes direct aim at infinite card loops. While pulling off an endless turn through careful deck thinning is a celebrated rite of passage for roguelite veterans, the new patch makes those setups significantly harder to engineer. Cards like Alignment and Boomerang have received targeted nerfs, and the newly updated Doormaker enemy now features a mechanic that eats cards right out of your deck for the duration of a battle.

Beyond the crackdown on infinite combos, the update adjusts several foundational systems across the board. Shop relics are now twenty-five gold cheaper, though gold-generating relics have been pulled from the merchant inventory entirely. Mega Crit also added a hard cap of just under one billion on power values and shifted daily and custom runs to exclude certain character stats and epochs, refocusing player progression firmly onto the main campaign.

The patch is not all business and balance adjustments. It also introduces fresh portrait art, character-specific visual effects, and a new Phobia setting that swaps out unsettling bug visuals for alternative designs. For players who want to squeeze a few more hours out of the current meta, the update is currently rolling out as an opt-in beta before hitting the public servers, giving everyone a little extra time to chase those infinite loops while they still can.
