Bethesda has shadow dropped The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on the Nintendo Switch 2 as part of the Anniversary Edition. The release features improved performance, faster load times, and a free upgrade path for existing Switch 1 owners, plus returning Zelda crossover gear.
Todd Howard has done it again. In a surprise shadow drop reported by Game Rant, Bethesda has officially brought The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to the Nintendo Switch 2. For a game that originally launched back in 2011, this latest platform jump highlights the enduring appeal of Bethesda's massive open world. The new Switch 2 version delivers the full Anniversary Edition package, meaning players get all major expansions including Dawnguard, Dragonborn, and Hearthfire, alongside a robust selection of Creation Club content.
From a technical standpoint, the Switch 2 release fixes many of the hardware limitations that plagued older portable builds. Players can expect significantly improved load times, enhanced resolution, and optimized performance overall. Best of all, Bethesda is throwing current players a bone. Anyone who already owns Skyrim on the original Nintendo Switch can upgrade to the new Switch 2 native version completely free of charge. New players picking up the title for the first time will need to pay the standard $59.99.
Nostalgia and platform-exclusive bonuses also make a return in this new edition. The release includes the beloved Zelda crossover gear, letting players kit out their Dragonborn with the Master Sword, Hylian Shield, and Champion's Tunic. These items can be unlocked natively by hunting down a hidden chest near the Throat of the World or by scanning compatible Breath of the Wild amiibo. As hardware evolves and players transition to newer hybrid consoles, Skyrim remains the ultimate constant in the gaming ecosystem.
