Skyrim Comes to Nintendo Switch 2 as Bethesda Finds Yet Another Way to Launch the RPG Before The Elder Scrolls 6

Bethesda has announced The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition for Nintendo Switch 2, offering upgraded performance and free upgrades for existing owners while The Elder Scrolls 6 remains far off.
The endless journey across Tamriel continues because Bethesda has officially announced a new version of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, this time arriving for Nintendo's next generation hardware. As reported by Victoria Phillips Kennedy over at Eurogamer, the Anniversary Edition of Skyrim is available now on the Switch 2 for 52.99. Players picking up the new release can expect noticeably faster load times and enhanced resolution alongside the base game and its three major expansions, which include Dawnguard, Dragonborn, and Hearthfire. Hundreds of Creation Club items and nostalgic crossover gear like the Master Sword, Hylian Shield, and Champion's Tunic from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild round out the package.
Bethesda is throwing current players a bone with a sensible upgrade path. Those who already own the Anniversary Edition on the original Nintendo Switch can grab the Switch 2 version completely free, while owners of the base edition can purchase an upgrade to make the jump. Meanwhile, the wait for the actual next entry in the franchise drags on. Todd Howard recently reiterated that The Elder Scrolls 6 is still a long way off, despite active development. Bethesda originally teased the project back in 2018 to calm fans down, a timeline the studio has admitted was probably premature.
For a community that treats Skyrim as a permanent fixture of gaming culture, seeing the title make the leap to new hardware is equal parts funny and predictable. Between endless re-releases, massive modding milestones, and community legends like Shirley Curry stepping away from content creation, Skyrim remains an unavoidable pillar of modern entertainment. Whether you are buying it for the fourth time or experiencing it on portable hardware for the first time, Tamriel is sticking around on your home screen for a while longer.
