Sims 5 MIA? EA Says It's Keeping Your Digital House in Order (For Now)

EA's decided against making *The Sims 5* for now, arguing it'd invalidate players' investments in *The Sims 4*, but they are working on a new multiplayer *Sims* experience. Basically, keep your Sims 4 expansions, and maybe prepare for something... different.
Right, so before you go chucking your plumbobs at the screen, let's talk about *The Sims 5*. Or, more accurately, the distinct lack thereof. According to Game Rant, EA's put the kibosh on a proper sequel, and surprisingly, it might actually be a *good* thing. (I know, I know, hold your horses, mate.)
See, EA's Laura Meile reckons that launching a shiny new *Sims* title would basically be a digital kick in the teeth for those of us who've poured countless hours (and, let's be honest, a fair whack of cash) into *The Sims 4*. Think about it: all those expansions, game packs, and, dare I say it, *stuff packs* (guilty as charged) – poof! Gone. Back to square one.
"What I wouldn’t want to have happen is you to have to start from day zero and start from scratch and give up all of the things that you have created, give up all of the content that you’ve purchased over the years," Meile told Variety, according to Game Rant's report. And fair dinkum, she's got a point. Imagine losing your meticulously crafted vampire mansion or your perfectly chaotic family of spellcasters? Bloody hell, I'd rage quit for a week.
*The Sims 4* is still pulling in the players, even a decade after its release. Over 45,000 concurrent users on Steam alone? That's not too shabby. So, why mess with a good thing, eh? Especially when you consider the sheer volume of content already available. We're talking 16 full expansions, over 85 content packs, and a truckload of other bits and bobs. It's a Simmer's paradise… or a completionist's nightmare, depending on how you look at it. And if you were to purchase all of it, you might have to remortgage your real-life house.
Of course, this doesn't mean EA's abandoned the Sims entirely. They're apparently cooking up a multiplayer *Sims* spin-off. Meile's keeping schtum on the details, but she reckons it's gonna be a big deal. So, while we might not be getting *The Sims 5* anytime soon, there's still hope for the future of digital dollhouses. Maybe this new project could even bring some of those Web3 elements into the game, but we'll have to wait and see.
So, yeah, no *Sims 5*. At least not yet. But hey, maybe it's for the best. Less chance of our carefully curated digital lives being wiped out, more time to perfect our Simlish skills. Silver linings, mate, silver linings.
