Sims 4 Just Gave Us Glass Walls and Rooftop Gardens – Are They Finally Reading Our Wishlists?

EA dropped a surprise update for The Sims 4, finally giving us glass walls and rooftop gardens, plus some sweet quality-of-life improvements – reckon they're finally listening to the Simmer community? Before the fairies arrive, at least!
Right, Simmers, listen up! The folks over at EA have dropped a surprise update for The Sims 4, and it's actually… good? Before we get swamped by the upcoming Enchanted by Nature expansion (fairies, you say? We'll see...), they've gifted us some freebies that are genuinely exciting. And no, I'm not being sarcastic this time.
First up: glass walls. Actual, honest-to-goodness glass walls! Finally, we can build those swanky modernist mansions we've always dreamed of. Or, y'know, create a truly terrifying panopticon for our Sims to live in. Your call. You'll find these under Misc > Wall Patterns in Build Mode. Get creative, and maybe don't spy on your neighbors too much. (Or do. I'm not your mum.)
But wait, there's more! Rooftop plants! Yes, you can now stick greenery on top of your Sims' houses. It's a small thing, but it adds so much character, doesn't it? I reckon this means my Sims will finally be able to construct the post-apocalyptic green roofs they've been dreaming of (they have strange dreams, my Sims).
Beyond the shiny new build mode toys, there are some solid quality-of-life improvements, too. The inventory system has been revamped with new sorting options (by price, name, rarity, etc.). No more scrolling through endless piles of... stuff. Also, spoiled food now gets a big red warning sign, so you can avoid accidentally feeding your Sims that week-old grilled cheese. Nasty.
The Notebook also got a makeover. It's now more organized and intuitive (allegedly). Apparently, it's easier to keep track of collections and notes. Which, let's be honest, is crucial for any Simmer who's knee-deep in a legacy challenge or a meticulously planned story arc. Who uses pen and paper anymore when you've got a digital notebook, eh?
And, of course, there's a laundry list of bug fixes. Rain and snow shouldn't be falling indoors anymore (bloody annoying, that was). And apparently, kids were getting all stretchy when playing the violin? I'm not even going to ask. Just glad they fixed it.
All this arrives ahead of the Enchanted by Nature expansion, which lands next week. Fairies, a new world, emotional imbalances... it sounds like a recipe for either hilarious chaos or utter disaster. I'm leaning towards chaos, personally. Remember to keep your emotions balanced when the expansion drops, folks – or your Sims might just turn into evil pixies and burn down the neighborhood.
Overall, this update is a welcome surprise. EA actually listened to the community and delivered some features we've been asking for. Colour me cautiously optimistic. It's a step in the right direction, that's for sure.
