Silent Hill: Townfall Still Brewing, Devs Rebrand and Promise Nightmares Are Coming (Eventually)

The studio behind *Silent Hill: Townfall* rebranded to Screen Burn and reaffirmed they're still working on the game, promising more nightmarish goodness to come. Hopefully, we won't have to wait too long to see what they've been cooking up.

Right, so the folks behind *Silent Hill: Townfall* – that intriguing spin-off that's been simmering for a while now – have had a bit of a glow-up. Formerly known as No Code (because, you know, they apparently started without any actual coders – bit like building a house without bricks, innit?), they're now calling themselves Screen Burn.

Why the change, you ask? Well, turns out they... hired coders! Who knew, eh? In a recent blog post, Screen Burn explained the rebrand, labeling it “End of Act 1, Beginning of Act 2.” Seems fair enough. But the important thing is, they're still toiling away at *Townfall*, and that's got fans breathing a collective sigh of relief.

Now, *Silent Hill*, for those who've been living under a rock (a very spooky, fog-laden rock), is Konami's survival horror darling. It spawned a devoted following, countless sequels, and even a couple of films that... well, let's just say they exist. Keiichiro Toyama, the chap who kicked the whole thing off, is apparently cooking up something new as well. His next project for Bokeh Game Studios is designed to broaden the studio's scope after *Slitterhead* failed to make a big splash in sales despite garnering something of a cult following.

Screen Burn are being appropriately cryptic about the game itself. They started working on *Townfall* during lockdown (remember those days? Feels like a nightmare already, doesn't it?). They said, “We keep saying ‘we can’t wait to share more’ and it’s still true. We’re getting closer and closer, but we’re a small team making a big game. We’ll be with you soon enough and appreciate the patience.” Sounds promising, even if it's the kind of statement that makes you want to tap your foot impatiently.

The last proper update we had was in October 2024, so it's good to know they're still plugging away. According to the game's Wiki page, *Townfall* is being published by Konami and Annapurna Interactive and is aiming for a PlayStation 5 release. It's billed as a spin-off anthology, which is intriguing. Given that the team behind *Stories Untold* and *Outer Wilds* are involved, expectations are running high. But given the talent involved, there's every reason to believe *Townfall* could be something special.

The best look we've had so far was the 2022 trailer, which was packed with secrets and Easter eggs – the kind of thing that sends *Silent Hill* fans into a frenzy of speculation (and rightly so!). Apparently, a portable CRT receiver plays a key role, and some familiar beasties from previous games might be making a comeback. Ooh, spooky.

With the *Silent Hill 2* remake already out and a remake of the *Silent Hill f* on the horizon, there's plenty to look forward to for fans of the franchise. There's even whispers that the first three *Silent Hill* games might be getting ported to current-gen consoles. Which would be bonza, as it'd let a whole new generation experience the terror without having to squint at dated graphics.

So, there you have it. *Silent Hill: Townfall* is still alive and kicking (or, more accurately, crawling through the fog). Development might be a slow burn, but hopefully, it'll be worth the wait. Fingers crossed we'll hear more soon. And maybe, just maybe, this time, the fog will lift to reveal something truly terrifying. Source: Game Rant
