Josh Brolin has confirmed that Sicario 3 is finally gearing up for production, though original director Denis Villeneuve will not be returning.
Fans of gritty modern crime thrillers can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Actor Josh Brolin recently confirmed to Screen Rant that a third instalment in the Sicario franchise is actively moving forward and heading toward production soon. While details remain sparse, this update brings an end to years of speculation regarding the long-awaited threequel, giving audiences a reason to believe the project is actually happening.
Denis Villeneuve will not be returning to direct, as he is currently occupied with wrapping up Dune: Part 3 and moving on to his upcoming James Bond film. The first film remains a masterclass in tension, largely thanks to Villeneuve before he handed the reins of the sequel to Stefano Sollima. It is still unclear if Benicio del Toro will reprise his role, or who will ultimately step into the director's chair for this latest chapter.
There are some heavy hitters potentially working behind the scenes, though. Reports from 2023 indicated that original writer Taylor Sheridan and veteran filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie were collaborating on the project in some capacity. Between Sheridan's massive slate of television projects and McQuarrie's expertise in script doctoring and high-stakes action, the threequel has plenty of creative talent circling it, even if the exact writer and director lineups are still under wraps.
