Shrek 5 Adds Skyler Gisondo and Marcello Hernández to Voice the Ogre Family

DreamWorks has cast Skyler Gisondo and Marcello Hernández as Shrek and Fiona's sons in Shrek 5, joining Zendaya to round out the triplet ogre family.

DreamWorks is rounding out the royal family for the upcoming Shrek 5, bringing in some major contemporary talent to voice the next generation of ogres. According to a report from Variety and originally detailed by IGN South Africa, Skyler Gisondo, who recently appeared as Jimmy Olsen in Superman, will voice one of Shrek and Fiona's twin sons, Fergus and Farkle. He will be joined by Saturday Night Live and Happy Gilmore 2 star Marcello Hernández, who is set to play the other brother. The triplet dynamic is completed by Zendaya, who was previously confirmed to voice their sister Felicia.

Fans first met these three as babies back in 2007 during Shrek The Third, followed by smaller appearances in 2010's Shrek Forever After. This new casting direction suggests DreamWorks and Universal Pictures want to give the children much larger roles as the franchise reboots for a modern audience. The creative team brings serious pedigree to the project as well, with Shrek 2 director Conrad Vernon at the helm alongside writer Walt Dohrn. Illumination boss Chris Meledandri is also on board as a producer, bringing the same industry muscle that helped turn The Super Mario Bros. Movie into a massive box office hit.

It is easy to see why Universal is investing heavily in this revival. The original four Shrek movies pulled in a staggering $2.9 billion, establishing a cultural footprint that spans memes, streaming playlists, and critically acclaimed spin-offs like the Puss in Boots films. For a generation of players and moviegoers who grew up quoting the first two movies, seeing the franchise adapt with fresh voice talent is a welcome return. We will have to wait to see how the new dynamic plays out on the big screen, but the talent lineup proves DreamWorks is treating this comeback as a major event.
