Shark Dives and Cartel Stashes Collide in the Official Trailer for Above & Below

A new trailer for Above & Below highlights a tense survival thriller where five friends on a Mexican shark dive uncover a cartel drug stash, as covered by IGN South Africa.
Movie trailers often lean heavily on familiar tropes, but the new look at Above & Below manages to mix a few high tension survival elements into one claustrophobic package. As reported by IGN South Africa, the film follows a group of five friends on a routine Mexican shark dive who stumble upon a hidden cartel cocaine stash and quickly find themselves hunted. It is a setup that trades traditional creature feature territory for a much messier human threat, dropping divers into a situation where the open water is the least of their worries.
For audiences tracking horror and thriller releases, survival narratives work best when the stakes feel immediate and the environment works against the characters at every turn. Deep water diving already carries an inherent psychological weight with limited oxygen and unpredictable wildlife, so adding armed pursuers to that mix creates a constant pressure cooker. It is the kind of lean genre exercise that often plays well on streaming platforms or late night watch parties with friends in Discord.
While trailers can sometimes oversell the pacing of an indie thriller, the core premise offers a solid spin on traditional survival cinema. Whether the execution matches the high concept tension of the setup remains to be seen when the film finally drops. You can check out the original trailer and coverage over at IGN South Africa.
