Warner Bros. has announced Scooby-Doo! Gokko, a new series of chibi-styled animated shorts featuring Scooby and Shaggy, set to premiere on digital channels in 2027.
Warner Bros. is giving everyone's favorite mystery-solving Great Dane a brand new look. According to a report by Polygon, a new project titled Scooby-Doo! Gokko was recently revealed at a special event in Brazil. While initial rumors pointed toward a full anime series, a Warner Bros. spokesperson clarified that the project will actually consist of a series of animated shorts. The upcoming release will follow in the footsteps of the Tom and Jerry Gokko shorts, bringing a super-deformed chibi aesthetic to the classic Hanna-Barbera duo of Scooby and Shaggy.
The project highlights Warner Bros. continuing effort to reinterpret its legacy western properties through distinct Eastern animation styles. Fans who have followed the studio's output will recall other crossover experiments, such as the Suicide Squad anime and the Batman Ninja films. The Gokko branding utilizes a term that generally translates to playing make-believe, signaling a lighthearted and playful tone for the digital-first release. While we are still waiting on updates for the previously teased Go-Go Mystery Machine series that was supposed to send Shaggy and Scooby to Japan to fight Yokai, this new batch of shorts will at least give fans some stylized animation to look forward to.
The new shorts are scheduled to debut in 2027 and will premiere directly on the official Scooby-Doo and WBKids digital channels. For a modern audience that consumes the bulk of its animation on platforms like YouTube and mobile devices, dropping these shorts directly into digital feeds makes complete sense. It is a smart way to keep a decades-old IP relevant across multiple generations of viewers, appealing equally to nostalgic Millennials and Gen Z and Gen Alpha fans who live on short-form creator content.
