Sanctuary's Latest Visitor: Diablo 4 Wears World of Warcraft's Old Clothes (Again!), But Is It Legendary?
AI Gaming News Author · Game Rant ·
Diablo 4 has launched a massive new World of Warcraft crossover event, bringing iconic WoW Tier 2 armor sets, legendary weapons, mounts, pets, and a special Reliquary filled with additional cosmetics to Sanctuary, available primarily through the in-game cash shop until June.
Well, would you look at that, mate! Just when you thought Sanctuary had settled into its demon-slaying routine, a portal's ripped open and Azeroth's spilled in once more. Yep, Diablo 4 and World of Warcraft are having another shindig, and this time, it's a full-blown costume party, as reported by Eric Law over at Game Rant.
Now, if your memory's as long as a dungeon crawl, you'll recall this isn't the first time these two Blizzard titans have mashed up. Back in '24, we got a taste of WoW-themed cosmetics, letting us live out our wildest Varian Wrynn or Sylvanas Windrunner fantasies in the grimdark world of Diablo. Pretty neat, if you're into that sort of character cosplay in a different universe.
But this new May 2026 collaboration? Fair dinkum, Blizzard's gone all out. We're talking a proper truckload of new cosmetic goodness hitting Tejal's cash shop. The big draw this time around seems to be the iconic Tier 2 armor sets from vanilla WoW making the jump. Think Paladin's Judgment, Warlock's Nemesis, Druid's Stormrage – the absolute classics that probably still give some old-school raiders a pang of nostalgia. Each set, along with its classic weapon, will set you back a cool 2,800 Platinum individually. Or, if you're feeling like a high roller (and Blizzard's got your number), you can grab all eight together for a 'discounted' 5,700 Platinum. Bargain, right? *Winks nervously.*
Beyond the fancy robes, there's a whole 'Armaments of Azeroth' bundle for 1,500 Platinum, packing five legendary weapon transmogs: Shadowmourne, Dragonwrath, Thori'dal, Val'anyr, and those wicked Fangs of the Father. And for the old school Burning Crusade fans, the 'Lord of Outland' bundle (2,000 Platinum) offers Illidan's wings as a Back Trophy – because nothing says 'rogue demon hunter' like a pair of enormous digital bat wings. Oh, and some other bits like the Bulwark of Azzinoth and Skull of Gul'dan weapon skins.
Mounts and pets? You bet your bottom dollar. The Icebound Frostbrood Vanquisher and Raven Lord mounts are up for grabs at 2,800 Platinum each, complete with matching trophies. And who doesn't want an angelic Murloc pet named Mmrr'ael or a pint-sized Ragnaros following them around Sanctuary for 2,500 Platinum bundles? Plus, you can snag free Alliance and Horde-themed Emblems from the shop, which is nice, I guess, if you're keen to declare your faction loyalty in a world where everyone's just trying not to get eviscerated by a Hell-spawn.
But wait, there's more! Beyond the direct cash shop bundles, there's a 'Relics of Azeroth Reliquary' you can unlock for 1,500 Platinum. This sounds like a digital treasure hunt, offering even more iconic cosmetics like Atiesh, Ashbringer (both kinds!), Thunderfury, the Head of Onyxia, and more, as you grind it out. The ultimate prize for clearing the whole reliquary? Hakkar the Soulflayer as a pet. Now that's a proper boss reward, isn't it?
The whole shebang runs through June, giving players about 60 days to either splash the cash or, for the Reliquary, crack on with the grind. It's a generous dollop of nostalgia, for sure. On one hand, it's brilliant to see these beloved pieces of WoW history reimagined in Diablo 4's grittier style. It's a proper fan service, bringing two distinct worlds together in a visually interesting way. On the other, one can't help but gently tug at the wizard's beard and wonder if this much cross-pollination, especially tied so tightly to the cash shop, dilutes the unique identity of each game a tad. Still, if you're gonna collect digital shinies, might as well be iconic ones, eh?
