Sacred 2 Gets a Glow-Up: THQ Nordic Promises a Remaster That Won't Suck (Hopefully)

THQ Nordic is remaking *Sacred 2: Fallen Angel*, and the trailer suggests it might actually be decent, but Jeff's keeping his wizardly fingers crossed that they don't pull a *Warcraft III: Reforged* on us. Hopefully, the UI gets a glow-up too.
Right, so THQ Nordic just dropped a trailer for a *Sacred 2: Fallen Angel* remaster at their showcase. Now, I’ll be honest, my expectations are usually lower than a goblin's belly when it comes to remasters, but... this one actually looks alright. We're talking proper visual upgrades, not just a resolution bump and a slapped-on texture pack. The trailer, courtesy of IGN South Africa, shows off some rather lovely environments and combat, all polished up for modern PCs and, dare I say it, maybe even consoles?
*Sacred 2*, for those who missed the boat back in '08 (or were too busy playing *Diablo 2* – no judgement), was a pretty solid action RPG. Massive open world, a gazillion quests, and classes that were, let's say, *interesting*. Remember the Seraphim with her laser wings? Good times, good times. But it was also a bit clunky, a bit buggy, and a bit… well, dated. Hence the need for a remaster, eh?
But here’s the thing: remasters can be a blessing or a curse. Remember that *Warcraft III: Reforged* debacle? *Shudders*. So, THQ Nordic has a tightrope to walk here. They need to keep the core of *Sacred 2* intact – the things that made it fun in the first place – while modernizing the visuals and, crucially, squashing those pesky bugs. Nobody wants to relive the past exactly as it was, especially if the past involved falling through the floor every five minutes.
What I'm really hoping for is a proper UI overhaul. *Sacred 2's* UI was… ambitious, to say the least. It was like they took all the UI elements from every RPG ever made and crammed them onto the screen at once. A streamlined, intuitive UI would be a massive improvement.
And what about the multiplayer? The original *Sacred 2* had a surprisingly robust multiplayer system, allowing players to team up and tackle the open world together. If the remaster can recapture that cooperative spirit, it could be a real winner. Imagine exploring Ancaria with your mates, slaying dragons, and arguing over who gets the best loot – all in glorious HD.
Now, I know what you're thinking: "Jeff, you're getting your hopes up! It's just a trailer!" And you're probably right. But fair dinkum, I’m a sucker for a good action RPG, and *Sacred 2* always had potential. If THQ Nordic can deliver on the promise of this remaster, it could be a fantastic way to revisit a classic – or, for newer players, discover a hidden gem. We'll have to wait and see, but I'm cautiously optimistic. Just… please don't mess it up, THQ Nordic. Please. The fate of Ancaria, and my gaming nostalgia, rests in your hands. And for those eager to see the original trailer, you can check it out at IGN South Africa.
No release date yet, unfortunately, but the trailer did appear at the THQ Nordic Digital Showcase 2025, so keep your peepers peeled.
