Saber Confirms Generative AI in Rideshare Simulator Following Writer's Replacement Claims

Saber Interactive denies replacing its lead writer with AI on Rideshare Simulator, but admits the game uses generative AI for dialogue while missing Steam's required disclosure tags.
Saber Interactive is facing fresh scrutiny over its upcoming unofficial taxi game, Rideshare Simulator, following allegations from former lead writer Stella Sacco that she was replaced by ChatGPT midway through development. While Saber firmly denies replacing any human staff, pointing out that its writing team has actually tripled since 2023, the studio has admitted that the game uses generative AI and voice synthesis to power an infinite free-ride mode. According to Saber, this technology allows NPC passengers to generate a limitless variety of dialogue to keep the open-ended gameplay fresh and unpredictable.
Despite these explanations, the studio's communication around the project remains muddled. Saber insists the core story was written entirely by human authors, yet the distinction blurs when dynamic in-game conversations and voice acting are generated by large language models. Compounding the issue, the game currently lacks any mention of generative AI on its Steam store page. This omission puts Saber at odds with Valve's mandatory AI disclosure policies, which require developers to clearly state how and where generative tools are utilized before a game goes live.
This lack of transparency highlights a broader compliance problem spreading across the industry from independent teams to major publishers. As studios increasingly experiment with generative text and voice tools to cut down production costs or scale up gameplay loops, failing to update store pages properly is becoming an all too common oversight. For players and digital storefronts alike, basic disclosure is the bare minimum expectation. Until studios get serious about clear labeling, community trust in how these new technologies are applied will continue to erode.
