Rust's October Update Trades Gunfights for Farming With Sheep, Cows, and Rotten-Meat Fuel

Rust's October update introduces sheep, cows, and deep farming mechanics, letting players breed livestock for milk and wool, trade with vendors, and convert spoiled meat into fuel.
As reported by Polygon, Facepunch has rolled out Rust's long-awaited livestock update, steering one of survival gaming's most brutal sandboxes firmly into agricultural territory. Players can now fence in, breed, and care for sheep and cows, opening up entirely new loops centered around milk, wool, and dung. Animals feature distinct gene systems passed down through breeding, meaning players can optimize their herds for better vendor payouts and resource yields much like they already do with plant farming.
The update introduces clever mechanics for these new resources. Milk can be consumed directly or processed into cream and skimmed milk to boost the effects of food and tea buff recipes, while wool and the livestock themselves can be traded with vendors at Stables for scrap. For animals that do not quite make the breeding cut, Facepunch has added a biofuel generator. This machine converts raw or spoiled meat into low-grade fuel based on its calorific value, giving a pragmatic, if slightly gruesome, use to dead livestock.
Alongside the farming mechanics, the patch populates various biomes with decorative wildlife including frogs, turtles, and crabs to make the map feel more alive. For those leaning into the seasonal Halloween atmosphere, a new Plague Doctor skin for the Hazmat Suit is also available on Steam for $9.99. It is a surprisingly deep expansion for a game usually defined by chaotic base raids and PvP tension, giving builders and hoarders a fresh reason to log in before the next wipe.
