Facepunch Studios has overhauled the 2026 roadmap for Rust, completely removing the planned Battle Pass and introducing an inventory-linked Rust Premium tier to combat cheaters.
Polygon reports that developer Facepunch Studios has rolled out a major stealth update to Rust's 2026 roadmap, shaking up what players can expect for the rest of the year. The biggest talking point is the complete removal of the planned Battle Pass system, which many community members felt did not fit the survival game format. Facepunch has instead introduced Rust Premium, a system granting access to specialized servers for players who hold at least $15 worth of in-game inventory items, creating a new layer of verification designed to keep out empty-account cheaters.
Along with dropping the Battle Pass, Facepunch has pushed several major features into 2027, including procedural caves, the nexus system, the grappling hook, and terrain deformation. However, developers are still prioritizing core gameplay improvements before the end of the year. Animal husbandry, player customization, and biofuel generators are still on track for 2026, while pet dogs have been bumped up from a stretch goal to an active release target.
As the community gears up for the upcoming September force wipe across PC and consoles, these roadmap shifts show a developer listening to player sentiment and pivoting away from traditional monetization models. While the long-term utility of Rust Premium is still taking shape, shifting focus toward anti-cheat server measures and community-requested features like pet dogs proves Facepunch is keeping its priorities aligned with what hardcore survival players actually care about.
