Jagex is bringing RuneScape Dragonwilds to PlayStation 5 this fall, marking the 25-year-old franchise's first-ever console release and a day-one addition to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium.
For a franchise that has defined online gaming for a quarter of a century, RuneScape has maintained a surprisingly traditional platform footprint. That is finally changing. During the latest PlayStation State of Play showcase, Jagex announced that RuneScape Dragonwilds is heading to PlayStation 5 this fall, marking the very first time a RuneScape title will appear on a console in the 25-year history of the series. Even better for players, the survival crafting title will be available on PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium right at launch.
While classic RuneScape players might wonder if a full MMORPG port is finally around the corner, Dragonwilds stands as a completely separate entity from the traditional point-and-click MMO experience. The game leans into the familiar modern survival formula seen in titles like Valheim and Ark, tasking players with teaming up to explore the harsh regions of Ashenfall, gather resources, craft gear, and take down dragons. Having spent time in Steam Early Access since 2025, the game has already pulled in over a million players and proven itself as Jagex's fastest-growing new release.
Expanding to consoles and day-one subscription catalogs makes complete sense for a live-service survival game that thrives on active multiplayer communities. Cooperative survival titles live or die by their player counts, and dropping directly onto PlayStation Plus removes the friction of entry entirely. As Jagex looks to scale the franchise beyond its PC roots, this console debut could introduce the world of Gielinor and its spin-offs to an entirely new generation of players.
