Part one of RuneScape's massive Havenhythe expansion is live, bringing a new island, quests, fish farming, and high-level bosses to the long-running MMORPG.
Jagex has officially launched part one of the Havenhythe expansion for RuneScape, delivering what the studio is calling the MMORPG's largest geographical addition to date. Located east of Morytania, the mysterious new island opens up through a cryptic vision at the Rusty Anchor in Port Sarim, setting players off on a journey to uncover ancient civilizations and deal with fresh maritime threats. This initial update lays the groundwork for an evolving zone that Jagex plans to expand further throughout the year, adding new layers to the ongoing narrative.
The update splits its content across free-to-play and subscription tiers. Everyone can jump into the main introductory quests, Visions of Havenhythe and Hearts of Sanguine, alongside a free boss encounter against Ivar, King of Bones. However, subscribers unlock a much wider suite of activities. Members can tackle side quests involving a local housing crisis for the crabs of Wendlewick, construct and manage their own fish farms, and hunt big game to push that specific skill cap all the way up to 110.
For high-end combat enthusiasts, the subscriber track also introduces Silverquill the Dreadhog, a formidable boss sporting dangerous silver spikes that tie directly into the broader regional conflict. As Jagex continues to shape the game following major community-driven shifts away from traditional microtransactions, updates like Havenhythe show how modern MMOs rely on sustained, episodic world-building to keep player communities engaged.
