RuneScape: Dragonwilds is dropping its second major expansion, Dowdun Reach, in March, featuring a vertical Souls inspired castle, a skill cap increase to 99, and an active fishing overhaul.
Jagex is wasting no time expanding RuneScape: Dragonwilds following its strong launch last year. According to a recent feature by Polygon, the survival spin off is gearing up for its second major expansion, Dowdun Reach, arriving at the end of March. Subtitled the Madness of Zamorak, the upcoming update shifts away from dragon boss fights to focus on a dense, labyrinthian castle environment. Developer Jagex compares the vertical layout to iconic legacy locations like Stormveil Castle, pushing players through linear corridors, battlements, and armories packed with Black Knights and Blue Dragons in exchange for high tier mithril gear.
Alongside the structural shift, the update addresses a massive community request by raising every skill cap to 99. Creative director Rick Turek and executive producer Jesse America noted that skills were initially capped at 50 to pack in early content, but the new ceiling brings fresh passives, recipes, and skills, including a reworked fishing system. Unlike the idle mechanics of traditional MMORPGs, the new fishing system demands active timing and accuracy. Combined with recent farming additions, Dragonwilds is successfully bridging the gap between survival mechanics and cozy life sim elements that longtime fans asked for in pre development surveys.
The roadmap does not stop at March. Jagex already outlined its subsequent expansion, Umbral Sands, scheduled for Q2 2026, which inverts standard survival tropes by making the blistering heat deadliest during the day and pushing exploration to the night. Responding to player feedback, the team is also introducing more friendly NPCs, merchants, and questgivers to inject the classic narrative charm of the RuneScape universe back into the frontier without ruining the isolated survival atmosphere.
