RuneFest 2026: Jagex Announces RuneScape 4, Creator Collaborations, and Massive Roadmaps

Jagex announced a fourth Unreal Engine-powered RuneScape game, a MoistCr1TiKaL-backed animated series, and massive 2027 content roadmaps for the entire franchise at RuneFest 2026.

Jagex just wrapped up RuneFest 2026, and the studio delivered a massive wave of updates for the enduring MMO franchise. The biggest headline out of the event is confirmation that a fourth RuneScape game is currently in development using Unreal Engine. While Jagex is treating RuneScape 4 as a working title for now, building the next-generation installment on modern tech signals a major evolution for the quarter-century-old franchise. Alongside the sequel news, Jagex also confirmed a new animated adaptation in partnership with prominent YouTuber Charlie White, better known as MoistCr1TiKaL, and production company Lyrical Media.

For existing players, the upcoming RuneScape Reignited update launching on December 2 aims to bring lapsed and current fans back into the fold with a fresh economy, updated hi scores, and a long-awaited Plugin API. The studio also outlined a packed 2027 content roadmap spanning three major story arcs, featuring a Dragon Slayer sequel, a gnome storyline continuation, and a new endgame raid called Secrets of Karamja. Meanwhile, Old School RuneScape is getting its own heavy-hitting content drops, including the opening of the Menaphos gates after twenty years of waiting and the debut of the Fractured Archive raid in October.

Spin-off title RuneScape Dragonwilds is joining the action with its upcoming Luminance update in December, paving the way for the Blood Crystal Saga in 2027. Dragonwilds is also leaning into community creation by bringing official modding to all platforms, including consoles, through a partnership with CurseForge. IGN South Africa covered the event comprehensively, highlighting how Jagex is balancing next-generation ambitions with massive content injections for its dedicated community across PC and console ecosystems.
