Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser has launched American Caper, a new 12-issue crime-fiction comic book series published by Dark Horse Comics and Absurd Ventures.
Dan Houser, the creative force behind massive open world franchises like Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, is back with a brand new crime fiction project. According to IGN South Africa, Houser's new venture is titled American Caper, a 12 issue comic book series published through Dark Horse Comics and Absurd Ventures. The story trades the bustling streets of Los Santos for the seemingly quiet state of Wyoming, unfolding a sprawling narrative about the American Dream gone completely wrong.
The series follows a chaotic cast of characters whose lives violently intertwine in the fictional town of Verona. Readers can expect the signature dark humor and gritty storytelling Houser is known for, featuring two neighboring families on the brink of collapse, a Mormon hitman, and a gambling addicted lawyer trapped in a botched real estate deal. The ensemble also includes a fleeing beauty queen, a pair of runaway convicts in love, a billionaire cowboy, and a revenge obsessed maniac.
Houser created and wrote the series alongside longtime Rockstar collaborator Lazlow, who serves as producer and contributing writer. The creative team is rounded out by Eisner Award winning artist David Lapham, finisher Chris Anderson, colorist Lee Loughridge, and letterer Nate Piekos, with editing handled by former Vertigo executive editor Shelly Bond and Dark Horse executive editor Daniel Chabon. The first issue of American Caper is available now in local comic book shops, giving fans a fresh way to experience Houser's distinct narrative style outside of interactive entertainment.
