RoboCop: Rogue City - Unfinished Business: More of the Same, But With Extra Gore (and a Giant Robot!)

IGN reckons RoboCop: Rogue City - Unfinished Business is a decent but uninspired expansion, offering more of the same ultraviolence, but with a few technical issues and not enough new content to truly justify the price, unless you REALLY wanna stomp around as ED-209.

Right, so IGN South Africa reckons the 'Unfinished Business' expansion for RoboCop: Rogue City is a bit like finding a spare can of baby food in your desk drawer – comforting, familiar, but not exactly a revelation. They've been blasting bad guys in OMNI Tower, and while the scenery’s changed, the core gameplay loop? Well, let's just say it's as repetitive as RoboCop's programming.

It seems the story picks up where the last one left off, with Peter Weller's iconic deadpan delivery still being the highlight. Apparently, the supporting cast sound like they were voiced by interns who drew the short straw, but hey, at least Robo's still got his zingers. Think *Dredd* meets *BioShock*, but, according to the original review, without the mind-blowing plot twists (bloody shame, that). The main goal? Ascend OMNI Tower, presumably while leaving a trail of shell casings and quips in your wake.

Now, the problem, according to IGN, is that if you’ve already Robo-stopped every criminal in Rogue City, you've basically seen everything Unfinished Business has to offer. Same ricocheting bullets, same slow-mo door breaches, same gloriously exploding barrels. It's all fan service, alright, but it's fan service that's starting to feel a bit…stale. Even the upgrade system's a carbon copy. Fair dinkum, where's the innovation?

There *are* a few new mechanical baddies, including speedy robobombs and annoying flying drones. But, apparently, they're about as resilient as a politician's promise. OMNI Tower throws in a few visually interesting spots, like a video arcade (retro!) and a Star Wars-esque trash compactor (classic!). But much of the time, you're stuck in drab, concrete corridors. Sounds like a corporate dystopia alright – but a boring one, sadly.

And here’s a kicker: RoboCop's trusty Auto 9? Still so overpowered that it makes every other gun in the game utterly pointless. Unless you fancy freezing some goons solid with the new cryo cannon, of course. Who doesn't love shattering frozen enemies? I reckon that's worth the price of admission alone.

IGN also points out the game's structure is rinse-and-repeat: shoot mercenaries, resolve mundane citizen disputes, solve basic puzzles. They did mention a flashback mission where you get to play as pre-RoboCop Alex Murphy, which is a nice touch, even if it's a bit wonky. But, hold on, they did mention piloting an ED-209 mech. Bloody hell, that sounds brilliant! Twin arm cannons, rocket barrages, stomping over a model of Old Detroit… sign me up!

Now, for the bad news. IGN ran into a whole heap of technical problems on the PlayStation 5, including frame rate drops, audio glitches, animation issues, and even crashes. Ouch. So, is 'Unfinished Business' worth your hard-earned cash? IGN South Africa says that unless you're desperately craving more Auto 9 action and have a penchant for over-the-top gore, it's probably not essential. But, if you're a die-hard RoboCop fan, and that ED-209 sequence has tickled your fancy, maybe it's worth a punt – just be prepared for a few technical hiccups along the way.
