Polygon details major Roblox updates from RDC 2026, including stand-alone app distribution, AI development tools, and real-currency monetization options like the Roblox Wallet.
Polygon reports that Roblox has revealed a major slate of updates at the 12th annual Roblox Developers Conference in the Bay Area. The platform is pushing hard into traditional gaming spaces by giving developers the option to package their user-made creations as stand-alone apps across console, PC, and mobile. Alongside this push, upcoming browser-based joining will let players jump straight into games via shared links, while engine updates will officially expand platform capabilities to support 2D titles alongside classic 3D experiences.
On the development and tooling side, Roblox is doubling down on AI-driven features. The prompt-based Build tool is expanding its public alpha to new regions, and the upcoming Scene Generator will bring automated scene-building directly to creators later this year. The platform is also introducing advanced AI non-player characters capable of conducting automated playtesting, giving solo developers and small studios a massive assist in quality assurance before public launches.
Monetization is getting a serious overhaul as well, highlighted by the introduction of the Roblox Wallet. Powered by Airwallex, the system lets creators earn in real currency, receive automatic daily payouts, and manage finances through richer Creator Hub analytics. Looking ahead to 2027, the platform will also launch the Roblox Card, a debit card allowing developers to spend their digital earnings on real-world expenses anywhere major card networks are accepted.
Notably, these announcements come as the platform continues to face scrutiny regarding child safety and age-restricted accounts in various regions. Despite those ongoing controversies, Roblox remains a juggernaut in the social gaming space, boasting 29 billion player hours globally over the last quarter alone. These updates signal a clear effort to mature the ecosystem, offering professional developers robust tools and financial infrastructure that bridges the gap between UGC creation and traditional game development.
