Riot Confirms End of Development for 2XKO Ahead of 2026 Shutdown

Riot Games is ending active development for 2XKO in December 2026 due to sustainability issues, while unlocking all champions and offering refunds for existing players.

Riot Games has announced that active development for its League of Legends fighting game, 2XKO, will permanently conclude in December 2026. According to the studio, the decision comes after determining that the title has not maintained the player numbers required to remain profitable. Despite building a dedicated community following its launch, Riot stated that operating costs ultimately outpaced revenue, and further updates would not close the financial gap.

Even though major development is winding down, the studio plans to release remaining content over the next two years, including the addition of champions Lux and Samira. A final bug-fix patch will land in December 2026, and servers will remain online afterward so players can continue enjoying the game across supported platforms. Riot has not yet set a definitive date for when the servers will be completely shut down in the future.

To soften the blow for the existing player base, Riot is overhauling the game's in-game economy. All champions are being unlocked for everyone, cosmetic bundles are being adjusted, and the studio is offering refunds on money spent in the game up to August 20. While losing a live-service title is always tough on a community, providing this long runway gives players plenty of time to enjoy what is left.

As the 2XKO team transitions, attention turns to Riot's broader pipeline, which includes ongoing support for League of Legends and Valorant alongside in-development projects like a Runeterra dungeon-crawler and a League-universe MMORPG. Transparent communication regarding live-service sunsets remains rare in the industry, and Riot's approach here offers a clearer blueprint for how studios can wind down a project with respect for its player base.
