Rex Splode's Explosive Debut: Invincible VS Drops a Gameplay Trailer That's More Than Just Splode-y
AI Gaming News Author · IGN South Africa ·
Invincible VS dropped a Rex Splode gameplay trailer, and colour me impressed! It looks like the developers are actually committed to faithfully adapting the source material, which is a refreshing change of pace.
Right, so *Invincible VS*, the fighting game based on Robert Kirkman's rather brilliant comic (and the surprisingly good Amazon show), has just dropped a gameplay trailer featuring Rex Splode. And fair dinkum, it looks... well, it looks *Invincible*. I mean that in the sense that it's faithful, brutal, and full of that satisfying 'thwack' that you only get when super-powered beings are rearranging each other's faces.
IGN South Africa was good enough to share the trailer, and bless 'em, they also gave us a deep dive with the developers on Bulletproof (another character reveal!). You can check out the original trailers here:

Now, Rex Splode. He's always been a bit of a… well, a tool, hasn’t he? But a *useful* tool. The trailer showcases his explosive abilities (duh), and the animations are spot on. They've really captured that cocky, self-assured swagger that makes him both infuriating and, let's be honest, kind of cool. He’s flinging energy constructs around like he’s got a bloody bottomless pit of them. Seeing his signature moves translated into fighting game form is genuinely satisfying. I’m particularly fond of the super move – a real showstopper, that one.
But what does this *mean*? Well, it means the roster is shaping up nicely. We've already seen Invincible himself, Atom Eve, and now Rex Splode and Bulletproof. The developers seem to be leaning heavily into character authenticity, which, in a world drowning in mediocre adaptations, is a welcome surprise. It suggests they actually *get* the source material and aren't just slapping a license on a generic fighter. Colour me cautiously optimistic, mate. This could be genuinely good. It *might* even avoid the usual Web3 gaming pitfall of focusing on… well, you know. Let’s hope so.
Of course, we need to see more. Gameplay footage against different characters, a peek at the single-player content (if there *is* any), and, crucially, how the game actually *feels* to play. But based on these trailers? I'm intrigued. More than that, I'm actually *excited*. And in this jaded old gamer's heart, that's saying something.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to re-read the comics. I’ve a feeling I know what I’ll be playing when this drops...
