Capcom details Resident Evil Requiem's dual protagonists, Leon and Grace, whose contrasting gameplay styles balance traditional survival horror with action-heavy sequences.
Capcom recently showcased fresh details for Resident Evil Requiem following its appearance at The Game Awards, outlining how the dual protagonists will deliver completely different gameplay experiences. Series veteran Leon S. Kennedy and newcomer Grace will split the game almost evenly, echoing the structure seen in Resident Evil Revelations. According to director Akifumi Nakanishi and producer Masato Kumazawa in an interview with Automaton, reported by Eurogamer, the two characters represent a deliberate shift between high-octane combat and pure survival horror.
The development team designed the contrasting styles to provide a specific rhythm throughout the campaign, comparing the transition to jumping into a cold bath after a hot sauna. Grace handles the more terrifying segments as a character who leans heavily into traditional survival horror reminiscent of Resident Evil 2, while Leon takes on adrenaline-pumping action sequences styled after Resident Evil 4. This split allows the game to balance quiet moments of tension with satisfying moments of release as players overcome overwhelming odds.
Beyond the gameplay mechanics, the narrative marks Leon's first return to Raccoon City since Resident Evil 2, showcasing an older version of the character reacting to the place where his story began. Capcom confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled for release on February 27 next year across current gen platforms. You can read the original reporting over at Eurogamer.
