Resident Evil Hits Three Decades as Capcom Teases the Future

Capcom celebrates the 30th anniversary of Resident Evil with a global thank you from executive producer Jun Takeuchi, who confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem has crossed six million players while teasing more content to come.

Capcom is officially celebrating three decades of survival horror, marking thirty years since the original game launched on March 22, 1996. Series executive producer Jun Takeuchi released a global message thanking the community for keeping the franchise alive across generations of hardware. Takeuchi also shared a major milestone for the newest entry, confirming that Resident Evil Requiem has officially surpassed six million players worldwide since its return to Raccoon City last month.

While the anniversary message offered plenty of gratitude, it stayed light on concrete roadmaps for what comes next. Takeuchi simply promised that the development team is hard at work on more wonderful experiences for the future. Meanwhile, director Koshi Nakanishi addressed lingering fan theories about Leon's mysterious wedding ring from the Requiem finale. Nakanishi kept the details vague, telling Eurogamer that the answer will become clear eventually while leaving players to imagine those peaceful moments for now.

Even without a full timeline for future sequels, the pipeline is far from empty. Capcom previously confirmed that a brand new story expansion is already in development to delve deeper into the lore of Requiem. As reported by Eurogamer, players across PC, console, and cloud platforms can expect plenty of additional content as the franchise steps boldly into its fourth decade.
