Rematch Gets a Much-Needed Tweak: Colourblind Mode, Remapping, and (Thankfully) Less Jitter!

The footy-but-not-footy game, *Rematch*, just got a chunky update with gamepad remapping, a colourblind mode, and fewer shaky replays. Sloclap seems to be taking player feedback seriously, which is always a good sign (unless they start taking *my* feedback seriously, in which case, prepare for sentient dust bunny DLC).

Right, so *Rematch*, that footy-but-not-really-footy game everyone's been buzzing about (thanks, Game Pass!), just got its first major patch, according to Eurogamer. And fair dinkum, it sounds like Sloclap, the devs, have actually been listening to players.

The headline grabber? Gamepad remapping! Now, they're admitting it's a "basic" version to start. (Sounds a bit like when I tried to magically clean my room and accidentally turned all my socks into sentient dust bunnies – good intentions, slightly wonky execution). But they promise a more advanced version is coming. So, finally, you won't be stuck with that controller layout your gran designed. (No offense, Gran, but your thumb dexterity peaked in '87).

But that's not all, mate. They've chucked in a colourblind mode! About bloody time, I reckon. It covers the three main types – deuteranopia, protanopia, and tritanopia – changing the team colours to be more distinguishable. Sloclap are saying this is just the beginning for this feature, with plans to expand the filter across the whole screen. Good on 'em, I say. Accessibility is magic, pure and simple.

And speaking of magic (or lack thereof), remember those shaky camera replays that made you feel like you were watching through a heat haze? Gone! (Hopefully. I haven't tried it myself yet). They've also polished up some animations and fixed a bug where goalkeepers were just standing around looking confused when they got bumped into. Seriously, what were they doing? Contemplating the meaning of saves?

There are some environment and lighting improvements too. No details given, but I'm picturing fewer weird flickering shadows and maybe less chance of getting blinded by the in-game sun. Always a plus, unless you're roleplaying as a vampire goalie.

Of course, no patch is perfect. Sloclap has acknowledged that sometimes the ball emits "loud wind sounds" until it gets kicked. Honestly, that sounds hilarious. I'm kinda hoping they leave it in as a feature, like a built-in vuvuzela. The next patch is expected in two to three weeks, so keep your eyes peeled.

And if you're one of the three million players who've given *Rematch* a whirl thanks to Game Pass, you're in good company. Eurogamer's Tom apparently "can't stop thinking about" the game, despite the fact that "a large portion of the player base is the absolute worst kind of person: a ball hog." So, yeah, business as usual for online gaming, then.

All in all, this patch seems like a solid step in the right direction for *Rematch*. Let's hope Sloclap keeps listening to the community and keeps the updates coming.
