Reddit Stonemason Crafts Steam Machine Faceplates From Michelangelo's Marble

A talented Reddit stonemason has crafted custom Steam Machine faceplates using authentic Carrara marble from the same quarry basin Michelangelo used, alongside Sahara Noir and Roman Travertine.
When Valve first showed off its new Steam Machine hardware, the company promised to release the CAD files so players could 3D print custom faceplates. The community immediately took that open design philosophy and ran with it. While most creators stuck to standard plastics and resin prints, one Reddit user took hardware customization to an entirely different level by breaking out the stone-cutting tools and working with genuine fine art materials.
Spotted by IGN South Africa via Reddit user GinoWT, a dedicated stonemason crafted custom Steam Machine faceplates using three distinct types of natural stone. Most notably, the creator used Statuario marble sourced directly from the Carrara quarry basin in Italy. This is the exact same stone quarry basin that Michelangelo used for his legendary sculptures centuries ago. Alongside the historic marble, the maker also produced striking faceplates out of Sahara Noir, complete with a natural gold stripe, and Roman Travertine.
Valve originally designed the mini gaming PC for modularity, letting players swap out exterior panels with minimal fuss. While official and community 3D-printed designs are great for neon colors and complex geometric shapes, this marble project proves that hardware modding can double as high art. It is a fantastic reminder of the creativity within the PC gaming community, especially when manufacturers give players the blueprints to make hardware truly their own.
