Rockstar is bringing its classic cowboy epic to a wider audience next month. Following a recent ESRB rating leak, the studio officially confirmed that Red Dead Redemption is launching for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and the Switch 2 on December 2. Players who already own previous versions will receive a free upgrade, and save progress carries over seamlessly. As reported by Eurogamer, the current gen versions bring notable technical bumps, including 60fps support, enhanced image quality, HDR, and up to 4K resolution on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, while the Switch 2 version adds mouse control support. For PlayStation users, the game will also be available on PS Plus starting on release day.
The expansion to mobile devices and subscription services marks a major play for accessibility. Red Dead Redemption is arriving on iOS and Android devices, and Netflix subscribers can access the mobile version as part of their membership. Every version of the release includes the classic Undead Nightmare zombie expansion alongside all content from the Game of the Year edition, ensuring players get the complete package whether they are playing on a high-end console or a phone during their daily commute.
While the technical upgrades and cross-platform push are great news for fans revisiting the frontier, the studio faces ongoing challenges behind the scenes. Alongside the rollout preparations, Rockstar is currently dealing with serious labor disputes after UK trade union IWGB launched legal claims over the alleged unfair dismissal of 31 workers, a situation that recently reached the UK parliament following an open letter signed by over 200 employees at Rockstar North.
