Ubisoft is remaking Rayman Legends in full 3D under the title Rayman Legends Retold, using the Snowdrop engine to preserve original level layouts while overhauling hub worlds, narratives, and intermediate spaces.
Ubisoft is revisiting one of its most beloved platformers with Rayman Legends Retold, translating the 2013 classic into full 3D animation while keeping the core level layouts intact. Originally praised for its vibrant 2D art and slapstick humor, the game is getting a significant mechanical and structural overhaul through a collaboration between Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan. According to reporting from Rock Paper Shotgun, the developers have imported the original levels into the modern Snowdrop engine, preserving the precise platforming challenges while completely reimagining the transition spaces between stages.
The most notable upgrade targets the hub worlds and narrative presentation, which were notoriously barebones in the original release. Instead of jumping through random picture frames in a generic gallery, players will now explore cohesive, fully realized environments that stitch the Glade of Dreams together. Fully voiced cinematics and expanded world-building give context to the chaotic dreamscapes, turning what used to be isolated stage selections into an actual living world. Worlds like the swampy Toad Story are transforming into fully explorable regions such as Stinkbog, adding much-needed depth to the interstitial moments between action sequences.
For veterans of the original release, skepticism about moving away from the iconic UbiArt Framework is completely understandable. However, keeping the actual stage geometry largely untouched means the tight, rhythmic flow of the platforming remains right where it left off. By focusing updates on the connective tissue of the game rather than tampering with the levels themselves, this remake aims to deliver a definitive version that respects the original design while finally giving the narrative and world a proper coat of paint.
